This course will provide an in-depth exploration of the United States government. The course will explore the history of the United States, the Constitution, the branches of government, the separation of powers, civil rights, civil liberties, and current political issues.
Students will gain an understanding of political science fundamentals and will be equipped to apply this knowledge to current events and debates. In addition, students will be able to develop critical thinking skills and analyze political issues from multiple perspectives. They will also be able to engage in meaningful dialogue and debate on current topics. Furthermore, the course will provide students with the tools to become informed and engaged citizens. They will learn how to research and evaluate evidence to form an educated opinion. Through this course, students will acquire the skills to participate in social discourse and become active members of their communities. The course will also focus on the importance of civic engagement and the power of collective action. Students will also learn how to develop empathy, understanding, and respect for other viewpoints.
This course will be connected to the Lit & Comp course and will include cross-over points throughout the semester.
